  • Dr. Milhorat begins work on Chiari malformation and syringomyelia

1995

  • The Chiari Center is born in Brooklyn under the direction of Dr. Milhorat and Dr. Kula

1999

  • The seminal article called "Chiari Redefined" is written and published

 

  • Chiari Institute physicians introduce color Doppler ultrasound in neurosurgery for Chiari I malformation

2001

  • Dr. Milhorat, Dr. Bolognese, and Dr. Kula move to North Shore University Hospital

2003

  • The Chiari Institute is born in its new location at 865 Northern Boulevard

 

  • Article about our use of color Doppler ultrasound is published

2004

  • The connection between Chiari I malformation and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is first announced at the ASAP Meeting in Iowa

2005

  • The first surgery for occult cord tethering is performed at TCI on a patient with Chiari I malformation

2006

  • The article "Chiari Redefined" (1999) is used nationwide in legal cases as a main reference about Chiari I malformation

2007

  • The article describing the association of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Chiari I malformation is published in the Journal of Neurosurgery

 

  • Arrival at TCI of the Iso-C intraoperative fluoroscopic device with intraoperative CT capabilities, to assist the surgeons during craniocervical fusions

 

  • Dr. Milhorat steps down as the President of the Medical Advisory Board of ASAP after ten years of service and leadership
